In Pensacola, Mardi Gras season unofficially begins the moment the New Year confetti settles, and the first King Cakes hit local bakery shelves. From January through Fat Tuesday, the city comes alive with parades, beads, and a celebration that feels distinctly Pensacola, where historic Mardi Gras traditions meet laid-back Gulf Coast living. As one of Florida’s oldest Mardi Gras celebrations, Pensacola offers a more family-friendly, community-driven experience than larger cities, while still delivering all the color, culture, and excitement. Whether you’re a longtime local, new resident, or planning a winter getaway, here’s everything you need to know to enjoy Mardi Gras in Pensacola this season.

With celebrations dating back more than a century, Pensacola boasts one of the oldest Mardi Gras celebrations in Florida. Over time, the celebration has evolved into a full season of festivities, including vibrant parades, elegant balls, waterfront celebrations, and family-friendly events that welcome both locals and visitors alike.

Tips for Enjoying Mardi Gras Parades in Pensacola
- Arrive Early: Parades draw large crowds, so arrive early to secure a good viewing spot. Bring chairs, blankets, and snacks to make your wait comfortable.
- Dress Festively: Embrace the spirit of Mardi Gras by wearing purple, green, and gold—the traditional colors symbolizing justice, faith, and power.
- Catch the Beads: Bring a bag or bucket to collect beads, trinkets, stuffed animals, moon pies, and other goodies thrown from the floats.
- Plan Your Parking: Downtown Pensacola and Pensacola Beach can get crowded, so consider carpooling or using rideshare services. For Downtown Pensacola, we recommend parking north of the parade route for an easier exit after the festivities. If you're attending a beach parade, plan to spend a few hours enjoying the beach before and after the event! Keep in mind, this year will be extra chaotic with the construction on Palafox on Downtown Pensacola so plan ahead and arrive early.
