Blake Doyle Skate Park

Blake Doyle Skate Park

A new addition to Pensacola in May 2023, the City of Pensacola now owns and operates the Blake Doyle Skatepark. Located in downtown Pensacola underneath I-110 at 501 N. Hayne St., in Pensacola, FL 32501. This park has been so busy since it opened that it took four visits and a bunch of rain to get pics for our blog without a ton of children in it. Still, we asked a few people to step aside. The Blake Doyle Skatepark has already become a popular place for skateboarders of all ages.

Skateboarding is a great way to get fresh air and exercise while learning a fun rewarding hobby. The skatepark is open daily from sunrise to sunset and admission is free to this outdoor park. The skatepark is large with several areas to accommodate different skill levels including a beginners area and a multi-level skate place as well as two skate bowls. There are multiple rails for practicing grinds, ramps to practice flip tricks and air maneuvers , and even two bowls. The bowls allow skaters to work on dropping in, carving the edges, and doing various grinds and tricks on the coping rails.

Some important rules for the skatepark include:

  • Only skateboards and inline skates are allowed inside the park.
  • No wax use.
  • No animals, smoking, or glass bottles are allowed in the park.
  • Helmets, elbow pads, kneepads, wrist guards, and closed toed shoes are required.
  • All minors must be accompanied by adults.

The only skatepark of its kind locally, this skate park has been in the making for nearly a decade. The initiative behind the Blake Doyle Skatepark was led by Jon Shell and his organization, Upward Intuition. The skate park was named in honor of his fallen friend and fellow skate boarder Blake, who had an unfortunate train accident while walking his dog. The project was designed to give residents a safe place to skate, since there were no other existing options. Bear General Contractors LLC lead the construction and brought the idea to life.
